Three Signs You’re Ready for a New Job

If you’re not happy with your current job, you’re not alone. A recent study found that a whopping 71 percent of employees are dissatisfied and looking for new jobs. But how do you know for sure it’s time to look elsewhere? Here are three specific signs.

You’re Not Being Challenged

One of the more common reasons employees lose interest in their jobs is simply because they’re not challenged. Maybe you feel under stimulated, like your knowledge and skills aren’t being fully utilized. Maybe you feel like there’s little or no room for growth and you’re just spinning your wheels. Or maybe you’re downright bored where you’ve mentally “checked out” and are simply going through the motions every day.

Whatever the case, this isn’t a type of situation where you’re likely to find any real meaning or job satisfaction. If you feel like it’s something that’s beyond repair, then your best bet is to look for a new job.

You’re Not Fitting in With the Culture

According to Investopedia, “Culture refers to the beliefs and behaviors that determine how a company’s employees and management interact and handle outside business transactions.” If you’re not on the same page with the rest of your company in terms of culture, it can create a lot of friction between you and everyone else. It can make you feel like an outsider, which is a surefire formula for discontent.

If you have a philosophy, values or beliefs that are the polar opposite of your company, then it’s not good for anyone. In this case, you’re better off switching to a different company whose culture is a better fit.

You’re Ready to Make More Money

The study also found that “45 percent of respondents said they ‘rarely or never’ get the money they deserve.” So salary is obviously a big issue for many people. Even if you’re relatively happy with everything else, not being adequately compensated can quickly put you at odds with your current employer. If you feel like there are better opportunities where you’ll earn more money, then it’s probably time to leave.

Every job has its ups and downs. But if you’re extremely unhappy with your current position and are showing any of these three signs, it’s time to see what else is out there.
