Maybe you’ve landed your dream job where you know for a fact you’re going to be significantly happier than you were in your old position. The only downside is you’re going to earn less than before. In this case, placing your overall happiness and well-being above money is acceptable as long as you’re still going to be able to pay the bills.
You Flat Out Need a Job
If you’ve been out of work for a while and are struggling financially, it usually makes sense to take a job even if the salary is less than optimal. It’s definitely better to earn something rather than nothing, so this is acceptable at least in the short-term. However, once you get back on your feet, you’ll probably want to renegotiate your salary or look elsewhere for a better paying job.
